Now not everyone can afford a big berky, try out a small one as it is easy to travel with, can be packed quick to throw in the car if you need to move location. There is also a travel version which I used when in Ecuador, it contains about 2 pints.
Now if you are on a real tight budget, get two strong buckets the same size. In one bucket drill three holes the same size as the tip of a berky filter, fit three filters in the bucket as you would a new berky. Place this bucket over the other with two lengths of wood to support the bucket over the other. Fill the top bucket with water and you have an economical water filter.
